Meet James B. Dodson, CPA Of-Counsel

James B. Dodson, CPA, graduated from the University of Wyoming with a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting in 1974. Jim is licensed as a certified public accountant in Wyoming, Colorado and Montana with an active permit to practice in the state of Wyoming.

“Success is not the key to happiness,” Dodson says. “Happiness is the key to success. If we love what we are doing, we will be successful. Our teamwork helps us to collectively and individually achieve success.” Mr. Dodson believes teamwork benefits everyone on the staff . “In order to succeed,” he says, “our desire for success must be greater than our fear of failure. The supportive workplace we’ve created at PMCH helps everyone clear that hurdle.”

In the private sector, Jim has performed auditing services over the past thirty-nine years for various businesses including construction companies, banks, meat packing, aviation, credit unions, oil and gas companies and various not-for-profit organizations. He has also performed special audit services for insurance company claims, embezzlement and misappropriation of funds.

He has conducted numerous seminars on governmental accounting topics for such groups as the Wyoming Association of School Business Officials (WASBO), the Wyoming Association of Municipal Clerks and Treasurers (WAMCAT), the Wyoming Association of County Clerks, and the Wyoming Association of County Treasurers. Jim has coinstructed the GFOA’s intermediate Governmental Accounting seminar and has spoken at the GFOA’s Annual Conference on several occasions. He is also a former instructor for the AICPA National Governmental Training Program, the AICPA National Governmental Accounting and Auditing Update Conference and the PCPS National Conference.

He is a member of the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA), the Wyoming Society of CPAs, the Central Wyoming Chapter of CPAs, the Colorado Society of CPAs and the Montana Society of CPAs.

Jim is a former member of the Special Review Committee for the Certificate of Achievement in Financial Reporting Program of the Government Finance Officers’ Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) and the Association of School Business Officals (ASBO). In his capacity as a committee member, he reviewed financial statements of government units for compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).

He is also a past member of the AICPA Governmental Accounting and Auditing Committee and the AICPA Private Company Practice Section Technical Issues Committee. He has also served as a member of the AICPA Steering Committee for the National Governmental Training Program.
